Training Schools

  • Physics and Mathematics of Topological Textures

    Location:
    Budapest, Hungary

Venue: Budapest University of Technology and Economics

    Date: 5, 7, 9 May 2025 (remote) & 12-13 May 2025 (f2f)

    Type: Face-to-face

Aims: Introduction in the physics and mathematics of topological textures across a series of physical systems.

Courses: (i) Theory of magnetism and magnetic materials. (ii) Generating and analysing polarisation textures in light. (iii) Mathematical analysis of pattern formation. (iv) Practicals: Numerical energy minimization.

Workshops

  • International workshop on Physics and Mathematics of Topological Textures

    Location:
    Budapest, Hungary

    Date: 14-16 May 2025

Type: Face-to-face | Workshop, Management Committee Meeting, Core Group Meeting

Description: The Workshop is directed to all Action participants. The discussed topics will include the theoretical work towards a unified theory for topological textures, and the problem of creation, annihilation, and manipulation of textures in various physical systems.

Meetings

  • Cross-fertilization of topological concepts across disciplines

    Location:
    Karlsruhe, Germany

    Date: 1-3 September 2025

Type: Face-to-face | Working group meeting

Description: Discuss topological concepts in many physical systems with a focus on magnetism (where some concepts have been extensively discussed) and optics (where advantages in experimental techniques and for system manipulation are available). Transfer techniques and ideas between the disciplines.

Mobility of Researchers and Innovators

  • Short Term Scientific Missions (STSM) grants

    Description:
Approx. 12 STSM grants. Mobilities with priority to YRI, visits to and from ITC, connecting different disciplines or laboratories active in different physical systems, and acquiring expertise in topics with significant potential.

  • Virtual Mobility grants

    Description:
    Approx.2 Virtual Mobility grants

STSMs

Presentations at Conferences

  • ITC Conference grants

    Description:
Will mainly be used for large European meetings and they will be awarded to YRIs with good scientific output in main topics of the Action area. A balance between Physics and Mathematics will be sought. Transfer techniques and ideas between the disciplines.

  • YRI Conference grant

    Description:
YRI Conference grant funds a presentation (poster/oral presentation) of their own work by a Young Researcher andInnovator (YRI) in a high-level conference fully organized by a third party, i.e. not organized nor co-organized by POLYTOPO.

  • Dissemination Conference grant

    Description:
Will be used by leaders of the Action who will target a large European meeting.
