Title: Quantized Transport of Gap Solitons in the Harper-Hofstadter Model
Abstract: We investigate the dynamics of gap solitons found in the Harper-Hofstadter model with an additional Kerr nonlinearity under an external force $\mathbf{F}$. We find that for low-gap solitons, their centre-of-mass motion is determined by semi-classical wavepacket dynamics with additional nonlinear dephasing . Intriguingly, we find that mid-gap solitons travel with a quantized velocity perpendicular to the applied force with magnitude proportional to $|\mathbf{F}|$. We demonstrated that this quantized velocity appears to be inherited from the linear Chern number of the underlying single particle band that the gap soliton bifurcates from. We find that this motion is robust to disorder and perturbations allowing for extreme levels of control over the motion of a gap soliton in a two-dimensional lattice system.
