Title: Topological textures in quantum systems - Applications from metrology to optics
Abstract: Topological textures are ubiquitous in many different areas of physics. When controlled, they allow creating novel applications in different fields such as optics, condensed matter physics, electric or magnetic systems. This in turn gives topological materials an important role in metrology, especially in quantum systems, defining SI units with highest precision or allowing precision measurement of derived quantities. In this presentation, I will show how precision measurement profits from topological textures in quantum systems. Starting with two-dimensional materials for defining the electrical units, I will also look at quantum clocks and quantum computing systems as well as quantum optical realizations. While light-matter interactions enable us to realize band structure materials with defined, tailored topologies, volumetric topologies as vortices, Skyrmions, and knotted Hopf-like structures can be created in light itself, realizing an ideal platform to test fundamental questions of topological textures.
