Title: Facilitating electrical and laser-induced skyrmion nucleation with a dipolar-field enhanced effective DMI
Abstract: By engineering the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction across the thickness from Ir/Co/Pt to Pt/Co/Ir halfway the multilayer, we align the effective fields generated by the DMI and the dipolar interaction throughout the structure. This enhances the effective DMI and creates conditions in which magnetic skyrmions can be nucleated much more efficiently—both electrically and using femtosecond laser excitation. The result is an increase in the nucleated Skyrmion density by as much as a factor of 20, together with indications of improved stability at higher magnetic fields. Next to this recent published work results I will present recent results on induced meronic structures due to growing a thin layer through its spin reorientation transition in the presence of the stray fields of a multidomain state. I will but both results in context of emerging potential applications.
