Title: Domain wall behaviour manipulation by nanostripe cross section tailoring
Abstract: By tailoring the geometry of magnetic nanostructures, one can change their magnetic properties and manipulate topological spin textures in these structures [1,2]. It was already shown that changes in cross-sectional area of a ferromagnetic nanostripe greatly influences the domain wall behaviour [3] and can even lead to their automation [4]. Here, we investigate the competition between the influence of varying cross section and an external magnetic field on domain wall dynamics in narrow and thin ferromagnetic nanostripes. We focus our gaze on two specific geometries, namely: nanostripe with a localised constriction and a wedge-shaped nanostripe. The domain wall behaviour is studied using a biaxial ferromagnet model and a collective variable approach. In both cases, we show that the competition between an external magnetic field and cross section gradient leads to domain wall pinning. In the process, domain wall pinning position is obtained, as well as the field necessary for domain wall depinning. We also show that the application of a small field creates damped oscillations near pinning position and find their frequency. All analytical predictions are well confirmed by the NMAG [5] micromagnetic simulations. [1] D. Makarov, D. Sheka, “Curvilinear Micromagnetism: From Fundamentals to Applications”.
