Title: Covering spheres and higher order compact manifolds with optical fields
Abstract: The polarization properties of fully polarized optical fields are defined over compact closed spaces, such as a 2-sphere (the Poincaré sphere) for paraxial light and a complex projective plane (or, alternatively, a 4-sphere) for nonparaxial light. We discuss optically fields that completely span these spaces over physical space (or spacetime), either once or many times. We also discuss the behavior of the Skyrme density, which is the Jacobian of the mapping from the compact to the flat space.
