Scope

This conference lies in the field of Partial Differential Equations and Calculus of Variations. It concerns the analysis of topological patterns that represent important concepts in many areas of physics, such as elasticity, solid or liquid crystals, superconductivity and ferromagnetism. The associated models often have a variational formulation and create various microstructures and types of defects (points, lines, interfaces...) due to topological constraints. The study of these topological singularities raises many fundamental mathematical questions (regularity, uniqueness, symmetry, stability, renormalized energy) and leads to difficult analytical problems that go beyond the classical framework of functional analysis.

This topic has a double impact: on the one hand, shedding light on physical phenomena, on the other hand, advancing the mathematical understanding of complex multi-scale systems. This workshop will bring together specialists working mainly in France and Italy that will present the most recent mathematical developments in the area of singular phenomena.
This event is part of the activities that the organizer is planing during his 6 months visit at LYSM CNRS Rome.

Scope

Program

The workshop will start on Tuesday (November 25, 2025) at 2pm with 3 talks, then there will be 7 talks / day on Wednesday and Thursday, and finally, there are 3 talks on Friday morning (November 28, 2025) so that the participants could return home on Friday afternoon. Each
talk lasts 45 minutes.

The detailed program will be published on November 14, 2025.
